Bernard Wold, President
In 1985, I met Joseph Murala while both of us were attending William Carey International University , which is located on the same campus as the U.S. Center for World Missions. Joseph was pursuing a Masters Degree in Theology while I was pursuing a Masters Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. During that school year, we became close, loving Christian brothers. Joseph returned to India to continue in the ministry and I finished my education while teaching in southern California. We stayed in contact with each other.
Giving Widows and Orphans a Future
A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
During the academic school year of 2003-2004, Joseph was involved in further Christian studies in Indiana. He came to visit my family during the Christmas holiday. We agreed that there is a desperate need to help orphans and widows throughout the world. Thus, the conception of Global Evangelical Ministries (GEM) occurred.
Our first primary goal was and is to build a campus for GEM INDIA. When the campus is finished we will have a church on the campus for the campus residents and the local community, help widows, care for 100 orphans, have a Bible seminary of up to 80 students, have a private English school for grades 1-12, and have a local medical clinic to serve the campus residents and local community. We are making significant progress in attaining these God-directed goals. Joseph and his staff are serving in India while I serve as the President of the Board of Directors in the United States. The primary roles of the Board of Directors are to raise financial support for our overseas projects, to keep our overseas ministries accountable, to faithfully pray for our overseas people, and to offer spiritual guidance.
It is a great privilege to freely give of myself to GEM. God’s heart is deeply concerned with the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical needs of orphans, widows, the homeless elderly, the mentally and physically challenged, and those who have been violated by others. I am grateful to serve GEM since my heart is closely attached to these needy ones.
GEM’s key verse is, “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this—to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world” (James 1:27).
Please ask God if He wants you to be a part of the “GEM family.” If He leads you to have a part in this ministry, please contact us. May God wonderfully bless you in whatever decision you are led to make!
Christ’s servant, Bernie Wold
