This message from Pastor Joseph was sent to GEM USA after we placed our Christmas 2008 Newsletter on the website:

We had a very good Christmas celebration on the 24th midnight; another service early in the morning, and the third service on 25th at 11:00 am. We visited all the houses of our church members along with many church members singing carols on the 24th cold night soon after the service. Wonderful experience! We had good gatherings. Many non-Christians attended. We distributed refreshments on the 25th.

Please pray for the building work and the workers to continue without any delays so that we will be able to finish the next phase soon. Reverend Prasad Rao shared the word of God at the Watch Night Service on 31st night.  We distributed blankets, GEM calendars that we had printed, and sweets. New Year Service on 1st in the morning. We bought 50 blankets to distribute to our church members at the New Years Day Service and gave everyone a lunch at the same time. Nearly 120 people gathered for the New Years Day service. We are greatly encouraged how God is moving in the lives of these people.

Lovingly,
Joseph

Dear Friends in Christ,

First of all I PRAISE GOD for His amazing love for us. We have ongoing problems with the access to Internet. We have trouble sending pictures, reports, and regular correspondence. Please pray for our Internet needs. We really feel that we are on an island because we are new to this place and people; moreover it is a small town. Life here is entirely different from city life. People around us are mostly uneducated and poor people, most of them never heard about Jesus!!!

I was thinking about all these new situations in my life; I was remembering my days in Vijayawada, and I began to ask God “What you want me to do?” and God spoke these words to my heart, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to preach Good News to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, to release the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor…to comfort all who mourn” (Isaiah 61:1-2).

I was very much encouraged and began to pray for people in this area. The Lord answered my prayers, and sent Pastor Joel to me, and then I shared my vision with him. We decided to reach some tribal people, who never heard about Jesus.

We met some tribal people in Vissannapet, a near by town to Nuzvid, and we shared the Gospel to them. I gave the Gospel message.  Pastor Joel and I both shared our testimonies. The tribe I am concentrating on now is called "Erukala" who eat rats, cats, snakes and frogs. They tend pigs as their profession of livelihood. They are half-naked people, away from the Indian culture and education. In that place some people accepted Jesus and they want to offer a piece of land for their worship center. There is a need to put up a shed for worship.

There is also another Tribe called "Gangireddula" in the same place. These people train the bullocks to dance and take them house to house begging for food. These people are nomads. They are also eagerly responding to the Gospel. We are encouraged by their response.

The ministry in Kamayyathopu is also going on well. Brother Bernie visited this congregation and preached. We worshipped under the shade of a tree. There is a need to buy a piece of land and put up a worship center in this location. The entire congregation is Hindu women and children. Of course my strain is increasing in moving around to these centers. Nonetheless, the Lord is strengthening me. Once again I Praise God for His love and plans for us!!

Now, I want to give you a clear picture of our GEM Campus. First, we built a shed for a storeroom. Then, we finished the first level of the church building. Next, we finished the first level of the living quarters for the orphans and the staff members. We are now in the process of building more of the perimeter wall and the second level of the living quarters. Ultimately, the living quarters will be four levels. We will then be able to have more living space for our staff members. We will also have more space to take in more orphans. We want to finish the second level of the church building. However, we still need funds for completing this task. We will use the first and second level of the church building for training conferences. We already use the first level of the church building for our services and some limited training for local pastors and laypeople.

We are still facing trouble to find laborers as it is busy season. Please pray. Praise God for extending the boundaries of GEM ministries in India, Albania, Tanzania, and Ghana. Let’s pray for our ongoing GEM ministries and the GEM Team.

In Christ’s Love,

Abraham Murala
