Winter 2010

“Do not move the ancient boundary or go into the fields of the fatherless, for their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their case against you” (Proverbs 23:10-11).

“Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; for the Lord will plead their case, and take the life of those who rob them” (Proverbs 22:22-23).

“Thus says the Lord, ‘Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also, do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; do not shed innocent blood in this place” (Jeremiah 22:3).

Let us all regularly pray for the safety of the GEM INDIA staff, the orphans, the widows, the needy women, the congregation, the buildings, and the land. Let us pray that “Jacob’s Well”, on the GEM INDIA land, will continue to flow forth with abundant and clean water. Let us regularly pray for the work that goes forward in Tanzania, Albania, and Ghana.

God is the protector of His spiritual children. He is particularly protective of the orphans and widows. Anyone who comes upon the GEM INDIA campus to do harm is actually attacking God. Woe to the person who attacks God’s people and God’s work. He is eternally sovereign over this entire universe.

Christmas and New Years Celebrations: Two wonderful Christmas services occurred the evening of December 24 and the morning of December 25. All enjoyed a love feast after the Christmas day service in which 100 people participated. New Year services in the GEM church were held the evening of December 31 until 2:00 AM. Another New Year service was held on January 1. Many new people attended the services. New Year promise cards and New Year GEM calendars were distributed at the services. New sarees were given to 30 women and two sets of clothing with slippers were given to our ten GEM orphans. The orphans and women were most grateful. The clothing and love feast food were provided by our generous U.S.A. supporters.

God’s leading and intervention is much more than we could possibly envision.
God knew before the foundations of this world that June 2005, October 2009, and January 2010 would all be woven together by His sovereign design.

June 2005: God directed us to buy 1.43 acres of land covered with Mango trees. Though we had God’s peace to purchase the land, it did not seem logical to our finite minds; however, it was absolutely clear in God’s thinking. Ultimately, people paid GEM INDIA to remove the Mango trees since wood is so valuable in India. We kept several mature Mango trees in the rear of the property for GEM INDIA’s personal use, to share with the local villagers, and to possibly sell any extra fruit.

Joseph Murala’s message - October 2009: During the first two weeks of October 2009, the flood of the century has created devastating havoc in Andhra Pradesh. However, the torrential rains have not damaged the GEM INDIA campus. Many towns and villages are in flood waters, including Vijayawada, where Scott and Bernie visited during their previous visits. Glory, our youngest daughter who lives in Vijayawada, is with us for temporary shelter. The village that both of you visited last time where Moshe, a member of our GEM INDIA board is ministering, is completely covered in flood waters. The village of Sudha’s parents you visited is also in flood waters. Her parents moved to shelter and left their belongings in the house. Huge fields and crops are flooded and destroyed. Many people lost their homes and around 60 people have washed away to their deaths. Food packets are thrown by helicopters to those who are surrounded by waters. Flood victims are crying for food and clothing. Amazingly, we are not directly affected by the flood as we live on higher ground. We are able to buy food, though the price has risen dramatically. We do not have any trouble from diseases due to the flooding.

Kindly continue to pray.  Brother Joseph

January 2010:Because the flooding did no damage to the GEM INDIA campus, construction goes forward. Toward the end of October 2009, a business in southern California donated $10, 000.00 to Global Evangelical Ministries. Thus, construction continues. Pictures of the construction and the Christmas and New Year celebrations are posted on www.gemorphans.org. On January 13, the elevation work for the second floor living quarters was completed. The elevation work is the finished sidewalls around the second floor. Now we can safely walk around the perimeter of the second floor. We can also be on the roof with a safe perimeter wall. Plastering of the stair steps and flooring, and white washing are completely finished. The windows and doors are all finished. The first floor houses the GEM staff; the second floor houses more of the GEM staff and the ten orphans; the third floor has yet to be constructed to house more orphans. The living quarters are posted with the title, “GEM HOME.” The construction of the entire GEM INDIA compound wall is soon to be finished. All of the male staff are occupied with the construction work.

GEM Life-Centered School: We are beginning the construction of six rooms attached to the west wall that is adjacent to the road. This wall also contains the gate for access to the campus. The west wall is about twelve feet high so we can have a slanted roof for six rooms. The six rooms will be an administration office, a medical clinic, and four classrooms. In addition to the normal educational curriculum, craft skills will be taught. This will allow the children to teach their parents so they may begin together a simple home industry to supplement whatever income the family already has. It is our desire to open our private Christian English school for the 2010 – 2011 academic school year. Not only is this school for our orphans, but we will also invite the local community to enroll their children in the school. Since we do not have the financial means to cover all of the expense for educational materials and the four teachers, we will charge a reasonable tuition fee to the additional students. In the future, we will build additional classes attached to the wall that is adjacent to the village. If you would like to designate money that can be used as scholarships for families who can only pay for part of the tuition or none of the tuition, that would be wonderful. This school and medical clinic will allow us two more ways to minister Jesus Christ into the hearts of the people.

We are so glad this is God’s ministry. We are simply his limited servants desiring to hear His voice and to be led by Him in all the decisions that need to be made for this ministry. As God continues with His GEM ministries in India, Tanzania, and Albania, He also meets our financial needs. It is not our policy to spend money that we do not have in our GEM USA bank account. We go forward with the resources that God provides for His ministry. Even though the USA economy has been terrible and we have a small group of supporters, contributions increased nearly 10 percent during the year of 2009. This is God’s doing, and we praise Him for this!

To God be the glory,

Bernie Wold
President of GEM USA
