Rev. Joseph Murala Background
June 24, 1949 – Born in Surampudi, a remote village in Andhra Pradesh, India. The fourth child of Venkanna and Mangamma Murala, who became known as Abraham and Sarah after their conversion from Hinduism to Christianity.
1956 – Mother died after giving birth to younger brother, who died also.
April 1968 – Completed pre-university course, accepted Jesus (new birth).
May 1968-May 1970 – Attended gospel meetings in spiritual quest.
June 1970-arch 1974 – Seminary education at Hindustan Bible Institute (HBI) in Madras (Chennai), India; obtained a Bachelor of Theology.
December 31, 1971 – Married Lalitha and continued to attend seminary with her.
January 1974-May 1977 – First appointment as pastor of Baptist church in Nellore, India. Ordained in 1976.
June 1977-May 1985 – Full-time lecturer at HBI (in Madras), pastor of two Baptist churches (part-time) and radio preacher in Premavani (part-time). Finished Bachelor of Divinity degree externally in Serampore.
September 1985-May 1986 – Obtained a Master of Theology at International Theological Seminar, California, USA.
June 1986-May 1990 – Founder and principal of Freeman Bible Seminary, Vijayawada, India.
June 1990-May 1995 – Regional coordinator of church planting for South India at HBI, Vijayawada, India.
September 1995-May 2000 – Principal of AMB Bible College, Chilakaluripet, India.
June 2000-July 2003 – Independent ministry as Bible teacher, pastor and evangelist in Andhra Pradesh, India.
July 2003-July 2004 – Connexions (leadership training school) at Living Faith Fellowship, Elkhard, Indiana, USA.
August 2004-Present – From Vijayawada, India, oversees GEM.
